Jerome Powell, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, will testify before the House Financial Services Committee at 13:30GMT. It will be the first appearance of Powell at Capitol Hill to give details on the state of the US economy.
Among the main issues expected to be discussed today are the Fed’s plans regarding further normalization of the monetary conditions via rate hikes, the impact of tax cuts on the economy, prospects for inflation and the rising concerns over the twin deficits.

Powell took office as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System on May 25, 2012, to fill an unexpired term. On November 2, 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Powell to serve as the next Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Powell assumed office as Chair on February 5, 2018.
