USD/CAD revisits daily lows after Poloz speech
FXStreet (Córdoba) - USD/CAD dropped back below the 1.2200 level during the American session as the loonie strengthened on the back of BoC Governor Poloz speech and oil’s sharp bounce.
BoC Governor said he expects the economy to recover in Q2 and that policy outlook is firmly data dependent. He also said they are ready for a Fed liftoff and in fact it would be positive for Canada "because it will signal strength in the US economy".
USD/CAD retreated from a high of 1.2258 to retest daily lows at the 1.2180 zone after Poloz comments. At time of writing, the pair is trading at 1.2220, still down 0.15% on the day.
The loonie has also benefited from a nice bounce in oil over the last hours after a sharp setback.
