EUR/USD deflates to 1.1400

FXStreet (Edinburgh) - The shared currency is giving away initial gains vs. the US dollar on Thursday, with EUR/USD putting the 1.1400 level to the test.

EUR/USD upside halted at 1.1450

The pair continues to swing amongst rumours and events coming from the Greek front, where meetings between the tandem Tsipras-Varoufakis and their euro zone peers failed to give extra oxygen to the debt situation in Greece.

In another direction, US Initial Claims rose 13K to 278K in the week ended on January 30th, and the trade deficit widened to $46.56 billion during December from $39.75 billion from the previous month.

EUR/USD significant levels

As of writing the pair is up 0.23% at 1.1417 with the initial hurdle at 1.1480 (76.4% of 1.1534-1.1304) ahead of 1.1508 (21-d MA) and finally 1.1534 (high Feb.3). On the flip side, a drop beyond 1.1369 (100-h MA) would expose 1.1339 (200-h MA) and then 1.1300 (psychological level).

US Initial Jobless Claim rose by 11,000 last week

The data released by the labor department in the US showed the initial jobless claims in the week ended Jan. 31 rose by 11K to 278K, missing the expected print of 290K, and up from the last week’s upwardly revised 267K.
